We see the world horizontal
I was thinking today about why I still post all my microblog photos (and most of my toot pictures) at a 1x1 ratio. And I think I figured out the reason.
In the vast majority of cases portrait is just wrong. In the vast majority of cases I think that a landscape photo will make a better, immersive photo.
That's not saying that I don't like portraits, but at the end of the day we see horizontally.
However, the way that we hold our phones, and I do understand that MOST of the time when we consume or read on the internet it is on our phone, landscape isn't ideal. So I post squares.
It's not always the ideal ratio, but its a constraint that I'm happy to work with on for these posts.
