Camera Repair a no-go

I have an older Canon Powershot SX260HS (my archive link) that I think is the pinnacle of handy point-and- shoot cameras. It has GPS, enough pixels, a decent zoom range and can fit in a jacket pocket with ease.
However, my camera has been through things. I took it to every jobsite for years (GPS tagged pictures before smartphones was a life saver) and its front element has a minor scratch causing flares in normal lighting.
I still want to use this camera, so I headed to ebay and found a relatively cheap as-is SX280HS for sale and picked it up. It then sat by my desk for a few months and yesterday I decided it was time to see if I could do anything with it.
It didn't go well

I broke out my ifixit kit and started digging in. I didn't bother looking up any tutorials as I figured this was a) a long shot, and b) I didn't want to fall into a bad searching rabbit hole.
Its amazing how tightly together these cameras are, but there was not going to be any way to replace the piece that I needed. As far as I can tell, the majority of the ribbon cables are permanently fastened, or I would need special tools to release them.
In the end, I gave up and the donor camera is destined for the electronic recycler.
